[After thinking about it for a bit, Daniel leaves a message for Zack.]

Hi Zack, this is Daniel. Just wondering if you were working anywhere these days? I might have a position for you at Wicked if you're interested.

[Zack is surprised and pleased. He has no work experience of that type, but it makes sense. He understands the toys and equipment and has an eye for the fashions offered. The wraith also has the transferrable skills associated with providing a service. It's not long before he leaves a reply.]

Hey, Daniel. Thanks for that message and the offer. Was thinking of starting something up like a small business. Might keep that for festivals and events though... still not decided. I could definitely work this month. After that might have to be a couple of days a week.

That sound okay?

That'd be perfect. I think your experience and knowledge would make you a real asset. Mine is all from the dominant perspective.

[He's not sure if Zack switches or if he's exclusively submissive, but either way he can advise people on things they might need to know about subbing.]

That would be perfect. I'll be at the shop all day, some come by whenever's convenient.

M'probably better suited to subbery, but that's no excuse for half-arsed Dommery. Be there in just over half an hour.

Zack is chuckling as he leaves that parting voice message. Subbery? Dommery? They're totally words.

He sorts himself out, trying to tame his hair with his fingers as usual - and failing as usual. He's lucky it has a natural propensity to stick out in spikes, rather than flattening itself to his head. Still, he prefers it a little more styled than mop-like. It's nothing a bit of hair gel can't fix, just to get it looking like it's meant to be messy. After that, the wraith pulls on some of the clothing that Daniel gave him, then carefully applies a bit of soft kohl around his eyes and leaves his room.

He shadowshifts and glides swiftly through the castle and outside. It takes less time to get to Wicked than it did to get ready.

Just under forty minutes since he left his last message, Zack arrives at Wicked. He shifts back into his humanoid shape and enters. It seems rude to just go in through a window or under the door, looking like a translucent black cloud. Now he's here, it occurs to him that he feels a bit nervous, and hopes he doesn't suck at being a shop assistant.

Daniel looks up from where he's sitting at the front counter, smiling as he sees Zack. "Right on time." He does appreciate promptness.

He sets his pen down and shuffles the papers he was writing until they're tidy and stows them under the counter before he stands. "All right, let's see... where to start."

He considers, then waves a hand at the clothing area, that's as good a place as any. "As long as you're working here, you're welcome to borrow clothes. Obviously you've got the right idea with what you're wearing, but feel free to try whatever you like from here or in the back."

"I get a bit freaked if I think I'm gonna be late," he admits with a grin. Which is one of the better anxieties to have, if you're going to have them.

"That's generous, thank you." Zack very much likes the clothing area, and nods. He'll be sure not to abuse Daniel's kindness, though.

He already knows from his recent foray that the prices are all properly marked, but there is one thing he'd like to know. The wraith remembers the gesture Daniel made to an elf-like creature and is still unclear on whether or not that was a matey bit of fun, or if Daniel dislikes them. "Do them fae make everything? will I need to work with them?" He has no objection to that, which is reasonably clear but the tone of his voice.

"Well, I'm not going to penalize you for being late unless I think you're doing it on purpose." Like Harry, one of Zack's new co-workers. It's pretty common to see him sauntering in after the start of a shift with a smirk. "I like to think I'm a reasonable employer, so I don't usually dish out punishments unless that's actually your thing."

He laughs. "It's really not, it's mostly for my own benefit." He really appreciates a pretty boy dressed up nicely. "And it's a good advertisement for the merchandise."

Daniel sighs. He really doesn't like them, though it's honestly no fault of theirs. He just has a suspicion that they're there to spy on him, and he's aware how paranoid that seems so it just makes him grumpier about the whole thing. "They do make our higher end leather goods, the handmade stuff. Any custom orders go through them as well. You probably won't have much interaction with them unless you want it, they tend to keep to themselves. The important thing to remember is not to thank them for anything - they find it insulting and they'll take a couple of days off work to nurse their pride or... whatever it is they do."

"Depends on the punishments, m'not so big on pain." Although carefully and expertly meted out, a certain amount of pain might be interesting to the wraith. "S'not something my owners really go in for, so I s'pose I lack that experience."

Zack grins again to think of being good advertising. It's nice that Daniel thinks he can show off the clothing in its best light.

"Uh-huh," he answers slowly and carefully. "Don't mind dealing with them, but I'm glad I know not to thank 'em. Our fae don't quite work that way. They accept thanks, but you gotta bow your head or offer a hand in friendship too. They consider words alone like... being empty, without a gesture to back them up."

[Rowan's perched on one of the counters in the salon, legs crossed, a thoughtful look on their face. It's the end of the day, but they haven't started on cleaning up yet, so the counter is still covered in the tools of the trade; make up is scattered around where they're perched, and in the background, one of the hairstyling spots is visible.]

Hey, Zack, I been thinking. You thought any more about getting a job here? 'Cos I saw some of what you was doing when the circus was in town, and we could really do with another pair of hands down here.

[Zack's lounging in the cuddle attic - a favourite spot, with his tome. He's alone today, however, so it's nice to get a call. He grins when he sees Rowan.]

Uh, yeah, actually. I'm helping Daniel out in Wicked for a bit, but he knows I've got other stuff lined up so I'll be going part-time. Be a while before I got enough favor for the bodypainting, but what d'you need in the meantime?

Well, actually, it were the body paint I was thinking about. At the moment, we only got Jackie what's really any good at it, and they do all the hair stuff too, so we're losing customers 'cos they can't be in two places at once. I mean, if you wanted to do it by yourself and all, I wouldn't blame you neither, but we got everything set up for it here, and all the stuff - well, all the mundane stuff, anyways.

Or if you wanted, we could probably hire out the space for you too. I'd have to talk with Jackie about that, figure out the exact deal, but then you'd still be your own boss and all.

I was thinking of going it alone, but only 'cause it didn't occur to me that I could go in with some others.

[Zack rubs his chin, thinking. He's nocturnal by nature, but if he is going to be occupied and employed, daytime hours are best for what he's good at.]

Be much nicer having some company. I promised Daniel a month, but could help out a bit when Wicked's closed for the day? Then after that, I can come an' work part time?

Yeah, it'll be nice having someone else talkative, honestly. Dominque's fine, but she ain't so much of a talker. But see how you get on with Daniel first, and then come to us and we can fit you in whenever. Ain't no point pushing yourself too hard. I ain't going to stop you from setting up your own place, 'cos I know some people prefer to go it alone, but it'd be nicer to not be competing against you!

Oh, I can talk. [Smirk.]

Don't wanna compete with no-one. That's not the point at all. Maybe I can come over and take a look at the place? Only so much I can see on this thing.

Oh, yeah, 'course! Any time, seriously. I'm normally around from about ten, but I can pop in earlier or later. Whatever works for you.
